It is with great pleasure that I announce the election of officers for the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association. The AHNA Board of Directors elected Asylum Hill resident and community activist Jackie McKinney as Chairperson of the NRZ. Jackie has served as a Director of AHNA for several years and has been AHNA’s representative, serving as co-chair, to Hartford 2K (the NRZ umbrella organization). Also elected was resident Edward Edgaro as Vice Chairperson. Edward is a community development consultant, and we are very excited to have someone with his skills on the Board.
Nancy Rion, who has served as the representative of our partner Immanuel Congregational Church for several years, will serve a second term as Secretary. Nancy is also the driving force behind the South Marshall Interfaith Coalition, which is focused on helping revitalize South Marshall Street and reaching out to its residents. Susan Tebolt was elected as Treasurer, replacing Paul O’Mara who served several years as Treasurer. Susan brings excellent accounting skills to our Board. We are also pleased to announce the addition of two residents to the Board, Mervin Mathurin and Jennifer Cassidy. Jennifer previously served on the Board and as Chairperson and we are very lucky to have her experience and commitment back on the Board. Mervin is a homeowner and lives with his family on Collins Street and wants to work to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. We also want to thank outgoing Chairperson Yvonne Matthews, whose calm and steadfast leadership has helped guide and strengthen the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association and made it what it is today. Additionally, we have begun a partnership with meetinginfo.org. We will be placing all of our meeting agendas and minutes for all our general meetings, board meetings and committee meetings there.
