Welcome to the official website of the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association!
We appreciate your interest and engagement. Asylum Hill boasts a rich urban heritage, the details of which can be explored further on this platform. We are committed to the preservation of our historic housing stock while simultaneously offering a substantial number of affordable housing units. This unique combination positions Asylum Hill as one of the most economically accessible historic neighborhoods in the United States. Our organization is driven by dedicated volunteers, and our Board is comprised of community activists and representatives from various member organizations. We operate through multiple committees, each focused on pivotal aspects of neighborhood revitalization. These include Economic Development, Public Safety and Quality of Life, Environmental Revitalization (Green Initiatives), Friends of Sigourney Square Park, and Arts and Culture. We invite you to explore our committees and consider joining one that aligns with your interests. The Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association holds monthly General Meetings that are open to the public. These meetings typically occur on the first Monday of each month, with exceptions in January and September. (In January and September, the meeting is rescheduled to the second Monday.) Our meetings are conducted online via the Zoom platform. For developers interested in acquiring property in Asylum Hill for redevelopment purposes, we strongly encourage attendance at our General Meetings to introduce yourselves and present your projects. Should your project necessitate city permits, seeking our support may be advantageous, and we strongly recommend proactive engagement with our members. Becoming a member of the AHNA is straightforward. Eligibility is extended to individuals who reside, worship, or recreate within Asylum Hill. Simply join our email list and participate in either a Committee or General Meeting to gain membership status. To be eligible for voting privileges at our General Meetings, attendance at a minimum of three committee and/or General Meetings within a year is required. Voting matters encompass decisions related to supporting building projects in Asylum Hill, the Annual AHNA Budget, the election of Directors and Officers, and amendments to By-Laws. The election of Directors takes place during our Annual Meeting, typically scheduled for the first Monday in November. We warmly invite you to collaborate with us in our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life in Asylum Hill. Sincerely,
